Kenedy took on penalty-taking duties from Matt Ritchie – who had not scored a penalty for the Magpies since April 2017 – when his side was awarded a spot-kick in the dying stages of a Premier League game against Cardiff in August 2018.

The forward, however, had his effort saved – which was also his first-ever penalty taken for the club – and the game ended in a frustrating stalemate
